Road Trip Through Southern Germany: Journey Through Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria
This route suggestion is not a round trip. We start in Stuttgart and head south, sticking to the border until we reach Lake Constance and Lake Tegernsee, before making a final stop in Munich. With a total distance of 800 kilometers, we’ve planned for about 3 days – the return trip from Munich can be completed in just under 2.5 hours, traffic permitting.
Of course, it’s up to you how you plan your extended weekend. If you’re not traveling with your own car but with one of ours, you can start at our rental station in Stuttgart and then drop off the car at our Rental Hub in Motorworld Munich. From there, you can either spend a few more days in beautiful Munich or catch a train home.
To make sure you don’t get lost along the way and miss out on some of Germany’s most fantastic curves, we’ve included links to the daily routes on Google Maps in the text below.

Kick-off for the Germany Road Trip: On the Schwarzwaldhochstraße
We begin our journey in Stuttgart, at our rental hub located at the Stuttgarter Rathaus on Esslinger Str. 12. If you're only visiting Stuttgart, we’d be happy to bring the rental car directly to your hotel. After a quick briefing on the vehicle, you're ready to hit the road.
Before leaving Stuttgart, make sure to visit either the Porsche or the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Both prestigious manufacturers offer an insight into their turbulent history in impressive buildings. And of course, you’ll get to see some of the most exciting vehicles that the designers and engineers from both brands have created over the decades. These stops are definitely worth it for car enthusiasts.
On day one, head west via the highway (here’s the route). Drive from Friolzheim and Tiefenbronn, through Neuhausen, and onto Unterreichenbach, until you reach Baden-Baden. Today, you'll explore the gems of the Black Forest: the most beautiful curves southward – and you'll find them along the Route 500, the famous Schwarzwaldhochstraße.
Look forward to breathtaking views of the stunning landscape, as long as you take your time on the winding roads. A short break to catch your breath awaits you at the Triberg Waterfalls, one of the highest and most beautiful in Germany. It's the perfect spot for a little lunch break before continuing your journey through the curves. Once you’ve reached the end of the Schwarzwaldhochstraße, take a left turn and then a right to head towards Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach, continuing south. After about 5 hours, you'll reach Lake Constance, where your hotel awaits you in beautiful Konstanz.
We recommend either the RIVA in Petershausen-Ost, which is a little further from the center, or the Steigenberger Inselhotel. Both accommodations offer parking, but please note that it is not free, with rates starting at over 25 euros per day.

Road trip to Bavaria: On to Tegernsee
When the alarm clock rings, the most intense day of the weekend lies ahead of us. But early risers are rewarded: The first ferry across Lake Constance towards Bavaria is especially spectacular on clear days. We've linked the right route here.
Upon arrival in Meersburg, we follow the lakeside road almost to Austria, but stay north of the border on the German Alpine Road, Route 308. This road is especially fun to drive along in a sports car, offering plenty of opportunities for rest stops. There’s no shortage of destinations here either. Highlights include the town of Füssen with the majestic Neuschwanstein Castle, Linderhof Palace, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen with Zugspitze towering in the background. You’ll also want to visit the Obernach Canal waterfall and the Benediktbeuern Monastery. A short but breathtaking hike can be enjoyed at the Höllentalklamm near Grainau.
Once past Germany’s highest mountain, we opt for a former racetrack instead of the highway: the Kesselbergstraße between Kochel am See and Walchensee. At this point, it's only a matter of time before we reach Tegernsee. If you're still looking for a place to stay, Das Tegernsee and the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt are both excellent choices. Again, parking fees range from 18 to 25 euros per day. Relax at the pools, unwind in the wellness center, or refresh yourself directly in Lake Tegernsee. In the evening, enjoy a superb meal at a traditional Bavarian inn, whether it’s the Bräustüberl, Schlosswirtschaft, or Freihaus Brenner by the lake.

A Stone's Throw: Hidden Gems Between Tegernsee and Munich
The distance between Tegernsee and Munich can be covered quite quickly, so the day starts relaxed – you can sleep in and take your time over a hearty breakfast. Afterward, the day is yours: feel free to hike up to Berggasthof Neureuth, enjoy the lake a little longer, take the sports car for a spin in search of more curves, or head towards Munich a bit earlier, considering your train ride back to Stuttgart. While you can't really get too lost now, you don’t have to stick to the dullest route – here is our recommendation for a scenic detour.
We suggest avoiding the highway and taking the winding route via Bad Tölz and the Starnberger See instead. Make sure to stop in the charming town of Seeshaupt. If you're getting hungry along the way, you’ll pass by the Andechs Monastery near Starnberg, where a fantastic view accompanies your lunch.
From there, you'll be in the Bavarian capital in less than an hour. If you still have some time left, Munich offers countless opportunities for shopping, strolling, sightseeing, or grabbing a coffee.
Destination of the Road Trip: Munich – The End of the Journey
As your adventure nears its end, we’ll gladly welcome you to Motorworld Munich. After you hand over your keys in the garage, feel free to explore the impressive exhibition in the old workshop hall before heading home.
We hope you enjoyed our route and spent a fantastic weekend behind the wheel of one of our or your own sports cars. If you’re planning to follow our road trip recommendation, take a closer look at our fleet – we have top models from renowned brands like Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, and especially Porsche in our garage.
Perhaps we have exactly the car you’ve had your eye on. If you already have a date in mind, you can easily check availability on our website without any obligation.
