The R8 is the one for the autobahn and the Alpine passes - a mid-engine V10 that will be gone from the market soon, so drive it while you can. The RS 6 Avant is the family-and-luggage version of the same idea, and the SQ7 or Q5 are the sensible choice for a week of skiing in Garmisch.
Where to drive an Audi around Munich
Autobahn: the A9 towards Nuremberg and the A8 towards Salzburg have long unrestricted stretches - the R8 was built for exactly this.
Alps: the German Alpine Road, Kesselberg, Sudelfeld, Garmisch and Neuschwanstein Castle are about an hour south - the best driving roads in Bavaria.

Cross-border trips are possible with every car in our fleet to Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, France, Monaco, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Portugal and mainland Spain. Select the cross-border option during booking and the car is covered for your route. Austria and Switzerland require a toll sticker (vignette), which you can buy at the border or at gas stations.
No. A valid US or Canadian driver's license is accepted as is. You only need your passport alongside it at pickup.

Yes. The Audi Forum Ingolstadt with the museum mobile and factory tours is 45 minutes north of Munich on the A9 - and the A9 is unrestricted for most of the way. Book the tour in advance on Audi's website.
