Driving fun without a roof in Nuremberg
Dürer, the castle and the Schöner Brunnen are all well and good, but you need to get out of the city. If you want to really get to know Middle Franconia, visit the vineyards or the Tauber valley. Rothenburg ob der Tauber on the Romantic Road in particular is absolutely enchanting and guaranteed worth a visit.
After that, a side trip to Würzburg, Franconia’s wine capital, is a good idea. Our tip: skip the autobahn and take the country roads winding along the hillsides instead. It takes a little longer, but after a few glasses of wine straight from the vine you shouldn’t be trying to drive back to Nuremberg anyway - so plan to stay the night. If you do want the autobahn, the A9 toward Munich has long stretches with no speed limit.
